Meeting other writers and women in publishing. What a week!

I have just spent 4 full days at a writing conference. No, more than that. It was Women In Publishing Summit, my second time. There were about 2 or 3 male speakers, otherwise we were all women. Writers, agents, publishers, designers, and all the other publishing industry roles I forgot to mention. Perfectly organised by Alexa Bigwarfe. I am exhausted, but it was worth it. … Continue reading Meeting other writers and women in publishing. What a week!

Musing about book success- does it matter? Yes , but it is not the reason I write.

I am reading Steinbeck’s Winter of our Discontent. I like Steinbeck, his East of Eden being my favourite of his books. In fact one of my favourite books by any author. I googled his books and him and read about his 1962 Nobel Prize for literature. To my surprize, there was a lot of criticism about him getting the Nobel prize. The archives apparently say … Continue reading Musing about book success- does it matter? Yes , but it is not the reason I write.

Some readers like my novel, will my relatives like it, too?

I can’t wait for my readers to review the book on Amazon and Goodreads, but because of Amazon’s rules it can’t be before 28th September, and even then people shouldn’t rush because apparently when too many people try to review the book on the same day, Amazon gets suspicious. So I have to be patient. Not my forte! My publisher received these 3 wonderful short … Continue reading Some readers like my novel, will my relatives like it, too?

It is exactly one month before my novel’ official publishing day. 28th September. The book is already available in paperback, the e-book doesn’t come for another month. Only slightly more than 2 months till the book comes out!

I had to do the proofreading on my typeset  book. One of my American friends, a writer, read the book for me, too, she said “ I want to read it anyway so might as well help with the proofreading. ” Very kind. That is where I realised that grammatically, there are more differences between British and American English than I thought! Fascinating. She also … Continue reading Only slightly more than 2 months till the book comes out!

With a book cover, the book suddenly seems real.

I didn’t like it, but everybody else does, so I must be wrong. I got used to it. I had correspondence with the marketing team from my British publisher and found out that they will only do trade and media marketing in the UK. That was a bit of a disappointment. So I will need to use some of my contacts and social media. Both … Continue reading With a book cover, the book suddenly seems real.
